A2  HOW TO DESCRIBE PEOPLE AND TALK ABOUT THEM IN THE PAST?

Do you know how to talk about your personality, your físic, describe where you live and all these things about people that you know?. To do it we need to remember some grammar rules and uses. So in this blog we want to help you in order to do it right and  easily. We are going to describe people in the present and the past.

El físico y el carácter:
Para describir el físico y el carácter de una persona se usa el verbo ser:  To describe the physical  characteristics and personality  we use ser:


  • Antonio es alto y muy amable.---------------Pedro is tall and very friendly.
  • Rosa era una mujer muy paciente.-------Rosa was very patien

Objetos y Lugares:
También para describir objetos y lugares    Also to describe things and places.
  • La casa era muy vieja.--------------------The house was very old.
  • El sofá que tengo es nuevo.-----------The sofa that I have is new.
 
El verbo "Estar"
Usamos el verbo estar para   we use the verb estar when:

  • Hablar de la ubicación:      we talk about location:
Mi casa está en el centro de la ciudad justo al lado del parque.
My house is in the downtown right next to the park.

Gramática importante:


Usamos el pretérito para:    We use the preterite tense to:
Hablar de los momentos más importantes de la vida de una persona.  Talk about the most important moments of the live.

  • Se graduó el año pasado.-------------------He graduated the last year.

Usamos el imperfecto para:    We use the imperfect tense to:
Describir a una persona en el pasado:     Describe someone in the past:
  • Carlos era muy trabajador y responsable. Carlos was very hard worker and responsible.

Para hablar de las relaciones de parentesco usamos los posesivos:    To talk about  our family we have to use possessives.
  • Mario es mi sobrino.------------Mario is my nephew.

Para hablar del estado civil usamos  ser o estar:     To talk about if someone is single or married  we use  ser or estar:
  • Rosa y Juan están casados.--------Rosa and Juan are married.
  • Laura es soltera.-----------------------Laura is single.
